for a very special engagement with Ellie Ga as she performs a work in progress version of The Fortunetellers, a piece she has been working on for the past year.

2007-2009

After spending nearly six months as artist-in-residence aboard the Tara, a sailboat frozen into the ice of near the North Pole, for the past year Ga has been working with the material gathered from the expedition. In The Fortunetellers, Ga blurs the borders between present and past, memories and myths, using superimpositions in both sound and image as she narrates the terms and rituals of daily life for her and the other nine crew members during the polar night.

Chapters from The Fortunetellers have been performed recently at Museo d'Arte Contemporanea della Sicilia (Palermo, Sicily) Projekt 0047 (Oslo, Norway), Ecole Supérieure des Artes, (Bruxelles, Belgium), and in the USA at PNCA in Portland, Oregon.
